African and Oceanic Art at Lempertz Brussels in June: Two Fairs, Two Collections, One Location

In June, Lempertz Brussels invites you to a series of exhibitions and receptions at its Brussels branch in the Sablon district. The spotlight is on two major art events of the season, as well as exclusive previews of upcoming auctions for African, Oceanic, and Asian Art.

As part of the CIVILISATIONS | World Art Fair, Lempertz presents a selection of African, Oceanic, and Asian artworks from June 3 to 6 (open daily from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.). Outstanding pieces from the spring auctions will be on display. The Asian Art auction will take place on June 13, 2026, in Cologne, followed by the auction for African and Oceanic Art on July 1, 2026, in Brussels.

Immediately following this - from June 9 to 13 (11:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.) - Lempertz will participate in the Egmont Art Days. In collaboration with Artcurial, highlights from the renowned Rotthier Collection - which is set to go up for auction in Paris this September - will be presented.

Another highlight in June is the curated preview of African and Oceanic Art, with a special focus on the Kuba Kingdom. The artistic legacy of the Kuba Kingdom, founded in the early 17th century, is a remarkable testament to a highly stratified and wealthy society where elite status was earned, not merely inherited. The aristocrats display their prosperity and personal achievements through magnificent, specialized art forms, fostering a professional class of artists under royal patronage.

Kuba art is renowned for its intense surface refinement, complex geometric patterns, and symbolic storytelling across various media, including palm wine cups, ancestral figures, masks and abstract raffia textiles that inspired the modernist movements.

The exhibition presents the complete selection for the auction on July 1. The opening takes place on June 23 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.; subsequently, the exhibition is open during regular business hours (10:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.).

Selected highlights of the auction will be exhibited from June 19 to 20 at the Cologne headquarters at Neumarkt 3 (10 a.m. – 5 p.m.).
